Although this wedding took place at the Colony Club right here in Richmond, Pam and Mat are actually from New York. Brooklyn to be exact. And I feel like they really brought a bit of Brooklyn down South - their style, their swagger...their taste in music and yummy foods...soooo fabulous! Pam and I had only ever spoken on the phone before the big day, but from our few conversations, I knew we'd hit it off. Totally did. And Mat, well, he spells his name with one T - so duh, he's super cool in my book too! (I've never met a one-T'd Mat that I didn't like!)
This was my first wedding at the Colony Club, and I certainly hope I get the opportunity to shoot another one here. See why:

While I was up in the MD area, I met Kirsten and Danny at Harper's Ferry, WV. Although the day looked beautiful it was ridonkulously hot! And not just temp-wise, the humidity was off the charts. But K + D were troopers and although I kept asking "Are you OK? Do you need a break?" they carried on without a complaint! And looked lovely while doing so :)

It wasn't too hot for this guy to come out and play either!

There's a wee bit of alma mater rivalry going on between Kirsten and Danny: VT vs. WV.

But, in the end, love conquers all and Kirsten can look past Danny's one small fault...har har ;)

I had a great time meeting you guys! Thanks for sticking it out and being such great sports in the heat. And don't worry - it'll be much cooler in October ;)

I have sooo many pictures to share from this wedding. Held at the Half Moone Celebration Center in Norfolk, Virginia, every single detail was pure perfection...from the colors (currently my favorite combo!), to the venue, to the cupcakes and centerpieces, to the people and their energy...I couldn't get enough! To top it off, Jen is pretty much a Greek (or Roman - take your pic) Goddess. This girl does not have a bad angle!

I met Michelle and Sajeed on a gorgeous Sunday evening at Glen Echo park in DC. This couple is stunninggg and super fun. I thoroughly enjoyed gallivanting around the park rediscovering all of the color and character of this magical place, making ridiculous references to Heidi Hands (which were totally well-received by Sajeed by the way!) and cannot wait to hang with them again in September :)

Wendy's brother Billy was the officiant at my wedding, so although I'd never met Wendy before, we were pretty much family, right? Well, even if Billy hadn't made my marriage official, I still would have fallen for Wendy right away. Such a sweetheart, silly like me, and those eyes...'nuff said.
Danny's not a huge fan of formal photo taking, so it took a wee bit of prepping to warm him up to the idea...

Once properly primed, I'd say he officially owned it!

Then came time for a wardrobe change, and for the cutest little chihuahua-pit mix everrr to join the photo-shoot: Tater!

Gloria is a friend from the VMRCVM. A member of the class of 2010 (along with April and Michelle), she just accepted a job all the way in sunny California! She decided to stop by on her way over to take a few pics commemorating this time of her life. Shauna is essentially a magician...she can turn my messy mop of a don't into a miracle do. She can transform a set of dark circles and bags into porcelain-like perfection. And she gives one hell of a head massage. In case this description of her abilities was too cryptic, let me just say that Shauna is the most fabulous stylist in all of Richmond. And as you'll see from the images below, she's just as beautiful as she is talented. Mike is such a sweetheart and quite the looker himself, so taking photos of this couple in Maymont Park felt more like a gift a job.

This came in response to a frog-like croak I made in order to get a laugh out of them...at first it had quite the opposite effect:

K-dawg is my cooler than school cousin, and now Ron is too! Their wedding was a ridiculous amount of fun. It started out on a boat and ended in a mansion. I mean, c'mon. They're basically rock stars. That's right, there's a bit of rockstardom in these genes ;)
Since it was a family affair, I was a bit unsure of how well I'd be able to separate business from pleasure, but it was surprisingly simple! And I felt this extraordinary sense of elation from beginning to end. Perhaps it might have seemed I'd sampled a few glasses of vino (ok, well, maybe at their engagement session...but that was at a winery, and Kristy made me do it! ;) ) but nope - I was just high on life. and love. and of course, family :) Kristy, you are so beautiful, so sincere and I'm incredibly thankful that we've gotten to know each other better over the last few years. And Ron, you are a perfect addition to the family;) I cannot wait til our next adventure...Love yas both!

April is about to graduate from the VMRCVM and she wanted some fun portraits to send out with her graduation announcements. Since she's going to be a vet, it only made sense to include her kiddos: Blackie, the sweet, well-tempered kitty, and Colby, the adorably friendly, but apparently, accident-prone pup. Several weeks ago April (an avid rock climber) was out on a trek with Colby, when he fell off a cliff! Insanely enough, he made it out relatively unscathed - just a broken toe I believe...which April, with much skill and TLC, has fixed up, and aside from a cast that's about to come off, he's as good as new :) Congratulations Dr. April - our furry friends are very lucky to have you on their side!

April brought along her good friend and classmate Michelle to help with the kids. Michelle was a grrreat assistant and model! I convinced them to take a few silly shots together. As you can see, they didn't need much convincing :)

Then, of course, we had to do some ANTM-inspired poses...April, you are sooo gorgeous...you could be picking your nose with one eye open and you'd still be hot.

Every now and then, over the course of Mary and Brett's wedding I had to remind myself that I was not on the set of a Vanity Fair or Vogue photoshoot...I was not in attendance at a celebrity wedding, and no, I had not quite reached my goal of becoming a 'noted fashion photographer' like 'Nigel Bahh-kah' :) But I was pretty close. This couple is so gorgeous and elegant, I couldn't stop ooohing and ahhing over the surreal beauty I was surrounded by. Take a look and see what I mean:

I could not have asked for a better wedding to kick off my 2010 season. Kat was a bridesmaid in Colleen and Dan's wedding, and I remember thinking back then what a gorgeous, fun couple she and Kurt made...I silently hoped they'd ask me to photograph their wedding when the time came. Colleen, the queen of all things good and lovely, made this happen on several levels - in fact, she introduced the two, so really, we all have her to thank for this wedding :) These two are stunners - Kat is an environmental scientist about to start grad school at Duke I believe, and Kurt's in the army, soon to be stationed in Ft. Bragg, NC. They're both into nature, the outdoors, scuba diving...pretty much anything healthy and fun that my husband wishes I'd be more into;) And as you'll see, they're divinely beautiful...

Although we've only hung out together once, Christi, Keith and I are pretty much BFF's. It's true. After meeting at O'Connell's pub in Alexandria for some snacks and a quick brew (or two!) we frolicked around town snapping pics here, there and everywhere...except next to the infamous anchor statue that was temporarily being assaulted by a little boy...Keith is hilaaarious - can totally ham it up - and Christi is absolutely gorgeous, so as a result, we got some beeyootiful shots! C+K, we definitely have to hang out again before the big day....July 4, 2010, baby!

The engagement shoot with Abbey and Jason was fa-boo-loo for many reasons. Here are a few: a)the weather finally got out of its funk and gave us some 60's and sunny-ness. hoo-rah! b)my cousin-in-law Jess, who is also a photographer, and an overall amazing person, came down from MD to help out (and hang out!) c)the shoot location was Abbey's parents' home which was absolutely gorgeous...as you'll see from the images below, so it was next to impossible not to get some good shots. d)Abbey and Jason were fantastic to work with - totally willing to do whatever, wherever. Jess and I felt so comfortable and at home with this couple that we almost invited ourselves to dinner:) A+J, thanks for being so hospitable and such fa-boo-loo models - hope you enjoy these pics as much as I do!

I started this entry almost a month ago. My excuse for slackage is simply that every time I look at the pictures for posting, my heart hurts a little...I wish we were still there! Jonathan and I haven't had a real vacation since our 'mini-moon' in Rehoboth 3 years ago, so it was high time we grabbed a little R'n'R. I'd never been to the west coast, and our super-good friends Jill and Dustin just moved out there so not only did we have a place to stay but we also had a couple top notch tour guides - ones that allowed me to indulge in all of my guilty celeb-stalking pleasures without giving me too much grief:)

If you know me on a personal level, you've probably heard of 'cake night.' And if you've heard of cake night, you at least know of it's co-founder, Christina. Over the past four years, we've spent 99.9% of our Wednesday nights together, sharing our love of two things: trash television (aka, TYRA!) and cake. Hump-day-nights quickly became a sacred event with a few followers who's dedication would not be deferred by anything less than the birth of baby Jesus...or maybe a final exam. Anyways, the point is, we've spent a lot of quality time together, and I attribute much of my attention to detail, and passion for fashion to this beautiful lady. Thanks for being my muse and smizing your eyes off for me, doctor-teeners!

A couple weeks ago I accompanied my good friend Mo to her hometown of Harrisonburg, VA, where she'll be tying the knot come September. We stopped by the big-day venue, the Blue Nile, a hip and cozy Ethiopian restaurant-slash-night club run by family friends. Loved this place. Lots of fun, bright colors, crazy-cool artwork, exposed brick and stone walls, rich hardwood floors, delicious beers on tap...cannot wait till the wedding! After a little bit of business and a nice visit we headed over to the family's home for a scrumptious dinner (thanks Buffy and Fred!) The family owns and runs a Christmas tree farm and I believe they're trying to get a page up and running on the web, so hopefully I can contribute a few of these pics as well as a link to their site in the near future.

Stacy and David drove all the way up from Java, VA to meet with me and discuss potential wedding photography. We hadn't officially planned on taking any pictures, but since the trek they made was over two hours, we decided what the heck - and I'm so glad we did. Let me start this post off by saying if you're planning a wedding and would like it to be 'themed,' consider a masquerade ball. Fabulous idea. Not only did it add color and creativity, it bore this unique energy that allowed each individual to unleash his or her alter ego...be it batman or the phantom...the dance floor was filled with fun-tastical spirits and deviant dancers.
Ok, so maybe Lee Ann + Jason had a little more to do with the magic of this evening than just some feathers and masks...oh, and it was Halloween:)

You may remember Suzanne & Brian from their engagements taken in Blacksburg almost a year ago. When I'm around Suzanne I vacillate between wanting to become a better woman (aka, work out more, eat better, do more volunteer work - and by volunteer work I mean doing any kind of good with out having to be asked) and fighting the urge to pull her hair because she's so darn perfect! Though the latter would never happen - her southern charm and unconditional acceptance (she still speaks to me after doing my goofy-booty-dance in front of all her relatives) make it impossible to feel even a tinge of jealousy...well, at least not for more than a few seconds. It may sound like I'm laying it on thick, but trust - she's the real deal.
Brian...well, lets just say I was worried there'd be a "speak now or forever hold your peace" or two during the ceremony. Please see Example A for proof of this. Yes, Brian, some might call you the 'McDreamy of Danville'. Just don't let it go to your head;)
After meeting their families and friends, I better understood how such a divine couple could exist. Generous, warm, devoted, hilarious, beautiful. Love.love.LOVE! Gregory's, Newcombs and all the fabulous friends, thank you so much for being so hospitable and awesome - I cannot wait to see you all again!

I shot Colleen & Dan's wedding back in June. We couldn't coordinate a time to do an e-session before the big day so we did one post-wed. The couple will be moving to Texas in January so they chose Georgetown as their backdrop in order to create some tangible DC memories.
As you can see C & D are freakin' gorgeous. So much so that a random group of about 12 other photographers (who already had their own model, mind you) out on a shoot caught sight of them and began snapping away like the paparazzi!
Colleen & Dan, I had so much fun trekking around town with you guys - thanks for putting up with the crazy lurkers, the heat/humidity and sewage smells :)

Annie is one of my oldest and bestest friends, and although I was not the official photographer for this wedding, documentation was one of my official bridesmaid duties...much to my delight:)
Held at River Farm in Alexandria, VA, A+J's day was beyond perfect...one I will certainly never forget, and perhaps neither will the guests in the front row/left side who had to endure the unpleasant site of a sloppy, sobbing bridesmaid, aka:me. Couldn't help it. Annie was truly breathtaking - and Joel, dapper as ever. They were like characters plucked from a classic novel, with their unattainable elegance and timeless beauty...take a look:

Colleen & Dan had an amazing military wedding at the Chapel of Our Lady Lourdes - part of Georgetown Prep (the groom's Alma mater). The ceremony was followed by a rad reception at the Hilton in Rockville. Everyone in attendance knew how to party. The combination of great people and an excellent music selection made it extremely difficult to refrain from dropping my camera(s) and breaking it down on the dance floor. Actually, it was too difficult...although I didn't drop my camera, I definitely shook my money maker a couple of times :)

Part of the original cake-night crew, Susanne and Brian are super-fun-happy-time friends from VT. We've shared as many good times as we have quotable-inside-jokes...and if you know us, that's a lot:) GUARF!
Going into this wedding my nerves were a bit wonky, not only because as a close friend, I wanted to accurately capture the personalities of my S&B while remaining objective, but because Brian is also a photographer. Fortunately, the fact that these are two of the most laid back, supportive people on the planet quickly kicked in - my nerves subsided, and I was able to fully appreciate the beautiful day at the beach as photographer and friend.
Susanne is the epitome of a classic beauty. She does not have a bad angle, and she looks good no matter what she's wearing, be it scrubs, sweats or a wedding dress;)

The Ketubah signing was held before the ceremony, so they got to do a 'first look' which was so special to watch...Flip was their too!

Hit the beach for some super-fun-formals. LOVED these. MUST go back. ok S&B?

Then took the Jolly Trolly over to Venus for the cer-ception!

Their first dance was a total surprise and absolutely fabulous! Who knew they had such serious skillz on the dance floor?? Actually, I had an idea ;)
